Hope has told Cueur that they will soon reach the seacoast, where a ship will be waiting to transport them to the Isle of Love. The gray-green, shimmering expanse of the sea provides a new backdrop for the bright colors in the foreground, ending at the top with the sharp line of the horizon, beyond which only the pale blue sky and ice-blue distant mountains are visible.

This scene is the most heavily populated of all ~ somehow , each of the knights has acquired a page of his own. Cueur's page has already removed his lord's spurs and looks on as Cueur sets foot on the boat, characteristically the first to do so. Generosity has set his left foot on a rock to let his page remove his second spur, and Desire's valet stands beside him, holding both spurs in his hand. ~~ Only the two horses are in view, pawing the ground; with their neighing, they have awakened the two young women who had been asleep in the boat: Confidante ( Fiance ) and Accord ( Entente ), serving ladys at Amour's court, charged with bringing the lover to the island castle of the God of Love. The sail is still furled, the oars lying ready in the boat. Despite their modish court dress, the girls are quite capable and smilingly decline the assistance offered by Cueur and Desire.

On the yellow sands of the beach, seashells and rocks lie scattered. Some large rocks at the right appear to be under water. Astern in the water lies a dark object ~ an anchor?... .....Continued... [ Next folio No.55 ]
