Phillip Guise
born 1755
Phillip travelled to the mountains of Buncombe
Co. North Carolina in the early 1800's or before
and settled in what is now called both Henderson and Polk Counties. ~ He acquired large parcels of land
including tracts on both sides of the Green River along the old Howard Gap Road.~~~~ There he built an inn,
a waystation for travellers and their stock to rest and to aid them in crossing the rapids of the Green River below. It is apparent that Phillip was a man of means, ambition, knowledge and foresight.
